Marie Alexandra Báez Vilá (MABV2)

       Marie Alexandra Báez Vilá (native of Utuado, Puerto Rico, b. 1982- ) is known for her bold, striking, multicoloured palettes used in her compositions. Marie is an artist, who lively manipulates acrylic paint to create original and unique depictions mostly inspired by her Dreams, Caribbean roots, Latin American folklore, Multiculturalism, Biodiversity and her Catholic faith. Through her spontaneous and dynamic depictions, Marie shares with viewers the existing world within, full of genuineness, love, whimsical dreams, literature passions, and more; all portrayed in a variety of painting styles, such as cubism, expressionism, modernism and abstract art.

       Marie stated: “I love it when the inner child in me takes control when I am to create art, because I am able to see the world through her eyes. The world suddenly transforms from ordinary into a magnificently beautiful and special place where imagination becomes reality through art expression.” ​ As a child, Marie A. Báez Vilá received recognition for her innate talent, which was influenced and nurtured by her mother María H. Vilá, an educator and artist herself. Alongside the cheerful support of her father Luis E. Báez who’d say to Marie: “You weren’t born to have your feet on the ground. You were born to fly!” Marie had the blessed combination she needed to break from her introverted character, enough to share herself with others by way of her creations.

        Following her mother’s footsteps, Marie Alexandra Báez Vilá became a loving and successful primary school teacher. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Utuado, Puerto Rico, previously known as “La Montaña” (“The Mountain”). She has always had a genuine love for children equally as she felt passionate about art; therefore, Marie would integrate different types of art into her classes. As she experienced the challenges of her pupils’ difficult backgrounds, Marie studied Art Therapy through online courses from Oxford University and other institutions; as she believed that through Art Therapy inclusion, she could help her pupils further.

         Marie A. Báez Vilá has earned numerous certifications in Art Therapy related courses. These certificates are Art Therapy, Trauma and PTSD, Therapeutic Art Life Coach, Art Therapy: For greater understanding of the “Self”, Art Therapy: Personal Development and Self-Healing, Therapeutic Art for Healing, Happiness and Stress Reduction, and Positive Psychology Art Coach. This newly gained knowledge has already made a positive impact in Marie’s art journey, which will indeed be reflected in her future compositions.

        Marie Alexandra Báez Vilá’s artwork has been shown in multiple exhibitions in Puerto Rico, US and exhibits her newest art pieces in diverse places withing Glasgow Scotland, UK, where she currently resides.
